Future City Game Jordbro

Background

This game was played in Haninge, a municipality of Stockholm, on 25 February 2011. Partner organisations were Kommunstyrelseförvaltningen Haninge Kommun and Tillväxt- och Regionplanekontoret.

Objectives

Jordbro is part of the ‘millon housing program area’ - a strategy of the government to tackle the acute housing situation in Sweden by building 1 million flats (1965-1975).

Jordbro, a community situated in Haninge municipality, faces many challenges today, and the main objective of the FCG was to answer the question: How can Jordbro become one of Europe’s most attractive million programme areas in 20 years time?

Winning idea

Jordbro – this is where people grow.

The team wants to expand on the areas’ reputation as a ‘transit town’, a place of passage. They want to turn the transition into a positive experience by making people develop and grow as people.

This will be accomplished by providing the community with excellent commercial and public services that support individuals’ lives and development. A new community centre will accommodate all of this.

Winning ideas from the other teams

Jordbro World Orchestra.

A professional orchestra would be established in the area, carrying out pedagogical activities for both children and adults. The stage would have a strong trademark, and attract international artists and audiences from the whole county. This would also raise the profile of the area.

Jordbro Cultural House.

This environmentally friendly urban cultural house would be the meeting place in Jordbro for people from all over the world.

Support Jordbro as a new education society.

A new education centre would be established, combining intermediate and high school education with extension studies and specialist training. The centre would also be a cultural centre. Local business would be supported and the job centre moved to Jordbro industrial estate.

Well functioning associations and activities.

The team proposes the establishment of a house accommodating all local associations. Local authorities are encouraged to give local associations more support and increased responsibility to be better able to raise local issues to improve their own situations.
