Background
The Future city game ’Spelet om Farsta Strand’ was played in Stockholm on 28 and 29 November 2009. Partner organisations were HUT-Farsta Strand and Hyresgästföreningen. A total of 20,000 SEK was set aside for the winning idea.
Objectives
The game was played in an area consisting mostly of public housing (Familjebostäder), low employment opportunities, insufficient housing maintenance and a large proportion of immigrants. The purpose of the game was to develop ideas and come up with suggestions on feasible projects that would benefit the residents of this landlord in the area.
Winning idea
During the game it became evident that the main local challenge was the feeling of insecurity in the area. Due to the lack of meaningful activities for young people, they often gather by the underground station. There is currently no meeting place where residents can meet. All three teams came up with the idea of creating a social and cultural meeting place.
Farsta Strand Cabré
To strengthen the community, a cabaret about Farsta Strand was suggested, created and performed by and for young and old in the area. The cabaret was performed to an audience of 100 people on 13 January 2010.
Winning ideas from the other teams
Community hosts
To increase security and contact between local residents, it was proposed that a network of local people who would patrol the area during evenings and weekends could be established.
Knowledge exchange
Adults and pensioners would help students with their homework in exchange for education in IT skills.
Environment possible
To improve the environment, tenants would receive education in recycling and how to make better use of the recycling stations in the area. Joint cleaning days and flea markets were also proposed.
