Background
This future city game was organised in partnership with The Friends of Integration Association and Centrum Łowicka. It took place in the University of Warsaw Library during an architecture exhibition entitled ‘Plans for the Future’.
Objectives
The purpose of this Future City Game was to discuss the availability of culture and cultural institutions in Warsaw for the disabled residents of the city.
Winning idea
On our way to culture
This idea is related to the issue of availability and safety of means of transport. The focus was on buses. Although Warsaw has a large number of buses adapted to the needs of the disabled, the people concerned prefer to use private cars and taxis. The problem here is the lack of understanding between bus drivers and the disabled, which results in many tensions and additional barriers. The resolution to this problem is a set of workshops targeted at both bus drivers and the disabled. During such workshops, the passengers and drivers would obtain the knowledge necessary to cooperate and coexist.
Winning ideas from the other teams
Access to culture
‘Access to Culture’ is an idea to create a multimedia map as well as a paper one. The map would take into consideration all the needs of people focused on culture, as well as the special needs of the disabled. The map would be also available online for disabled people to plan their outings. The map would include all means of public transport between large cultural centres, as well as details on their availability for the disabled. The project would be created by a leading organisation. The map would be distributed for free at places connected with culture and art, as well as places connected with the issue of disability.
Cultural Integration
’Cultural Integration’ is a set of events during which cultural celebrities and artists would animate the audience in an unconventional and integrating way. It would create a space for the exchange of knowledge and experience, as well as a place open to the disabled. The atmosphere generated by the presence of a famous person could help integrate people.
