Background
This Future City Game was initiated by the Revitalization Department of Poznan City Council. It took place in the old riverbed of Warta River, where KontenerArt is located.
Objectives
The complete transformation of the old riverbed with Chwaliszewo demands infrastructural as well as social, economic, educational and cultural activities that will change it into an attractive part of the city. This game was held to generate ideas for a successful strategy of transformation.
Winning idea
City – Harbour
This project seeks to introduce the inner-city lifestyle to Chwaliszewo district and reconnect this area with the rest of the city. The project is also intended to underline the historical aspect of the old riverbed by the placing of barges and containers and creating a waterway. The space of the old riverbed will become a space for development and integration - with beaches, playgrounds and events such as concerts, neighbourhood events, celebrations, and festivals.
A number of events have been planned such as installations, creating a promenade, and introducing a café that will magnetise people to come to Chwaliszewo.
Winning ideas from the other teams
Old riverbed – New space
The old riverbed is supposed to be a new space that will integrate the different generations of Chwaliszewo and Poznan as a whole. It will be safe and attractive, and include the needs of the elderly and disabled. This project will consist of interventions that will touch upon this vision. Initiatives include art installations, constructing a stage for public use, animating the nearby library as a place for meetings and local activism. The issue of creating a comfortable and friendly space for pedestrians became of high importance.
Old riverbed – New stream of ideas
Connecting the old riverbed with the city means creating new and attractive functions of the space. These functions can change regularly along with the seasons of the year (e.g., an ice rink turning into a beach). The project would also introduce playgrounds, cycle paths, small architecture and fountains. The economic growth of the district is also very important; this could be triggered by the gradual introduction of services on the ground floors of buildings along the street and by cooperation with the nearby College of Logistics.
