Background
The game was organised by Saska Kepa activists – people who want to see their neighbourhood flourish. Our partners were Kepa Café and Saska Association.
Objectives
The purpose was to generate ideas for the cultural centre that will be created in spring 2010 in the Saska Kepa district. The organisers of the game wanted the future cultural centre to be as connected with the life of the district as possible. The game was a good place to start creating a vision for the future cultural centre.
Winning idea
November 2010 – The Grand Opening
This is a collection of various ideas and initiatives to prepare the district to welcome its new cultural centre. It would begin with a video survey of Saska Kepa residents. The second step would be to create an internet blog – a platform informing about progress in creating of the new cultural centre. The third step would be a competition for the name of the centre. The final step would be to engage the inhabitants of Saska Kepa to create the centre by donating books etc. The opening of the centre would be connected with an exhibition of previously gathered stories connected with Saska Kepa.
Winning ideas from the other teams
Network of friends of the cultural centre
A map or a city game which would involve people walking around the district and meeting the friends of the cultural centre and interacting with them. It would engage the local community to become part of the cultural centre initiatives, either through the services they can provide or other active forms of participation in events and initiatives created by the centre.
Skaryszewski Park picnics
These picnics would be organised systematically and would have a local character. During these meetings, the local community could create a map of their stories connected with the district.
Coffee machine
This initiative could encourage the local community to create their own initiatives. Every resident of Saska Kepa could leave their idea for a cultural project in a specially prepared place in the cultural centre. The best ideas would be reviewed by the workers at the centre, who would then invite the contributors to workshops where they could finalise the ideas as fully working projects.
