The Breakthrough Cities report was formally launched in Prague on Thursday 11th June. The event took place under the auspices of the Lord Mayor of Prague, Doctor Pavel Bem at his official residence. The Mayor was represented by Mr Milan Pešak, Councillor of the City of Prague, who gave the opening address. The other speakers were the First Deputy Minster from the Czech Republic’s Ministry of Culture, Dr František Mikeš; Dr Marta Smolikova, Director of Proculture, a Czech Republic NGO and one of the main partners for the Creative Cities project in the Czech Republic; Lauren Kahn, a Research Assistant at the Young Foundation and one of the authors of the Breakthrough Cities report; and Nigel Bellingham, Creative Cities Project Director. The guests included representatives of the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs, several Czech city administrations, and various private and public organisations interested in the theme of Creativity in Cities.
The Prague launch is the first of many such events where the report will be introduced and discussed. It coincided with the launch of the report on the British Council’s Creative Cities website, together with alerts and links to the report being posted on the website of many of the project’s 105 partners in 15 countries.
