The British Council Poland team is deeply saddened to share the news about the death of Monika Dzięgielewska-Geitz, who left us this week, after a long and exhausting struggle with cancer.
Many of us knew well or at least heard about Monika, our close and befriended partner with the Creative Cities (as the Future City Game GamesMaster) and Creative & Cultural Economy projects. She was an incredibly genuine, warm and inspiring person, a charismatic figure, full of passion and dedication for whatever She was doing, admired and followed by many in her efforts to make her home-town of Łódź a modern and sustainable city.
In our memory we will always cherish Monika's openess, enthusiasm, heartiness, continuous lightness of spirit and a warm smile. And we know that She will be remembered not only by her Polish, but also international friends, like Jacob Urup Nielsen, who said "I have had the privilege to meet and work with Monika on Future City Game. Two things I will always remember about Her was the capacity for sharing and giving to people She came in contact with. During the GamesMaster training in Kraków Monika was one of the most experienced facilitators on the course but She was still very patient and generous with Her experience to other people in the room. The other thing I will remember is passion for Her city Łódź - in Her own gentle way Monika would make sure that people knew were Her heart was."
