Professor Mike Hardy launches OPENCities report in Spain

Professor Mike Hardy, the British Council's Director of Intercultural Dialogue, this week launched a new OPENCities report entitled Understanding OPENCities at an event in Madrid. 10 different media outlets, including Al Jazeera TV, witnessed Professor Hardy liken world cities to football teams in terms of them both being "pools of skills and talent", on the day that Spain made its debut in the World Cup.

On a more serious note, he said that OPENCities was an important project for the British Council because "In today's world of global economic recession and mass migration, cities have a vital international role when it comes to sharing learning so that we can all realise the benefits of new and existing solutions to our common problems".
