On Friday and Saturday a Future City Game was played in Poznań. The game was called Green Workshop and focused on possibilities of revitalizing yards  of tenement houses in an old district of the city - Jeżyce. The area has beautiful architecture form the beginning of the 20th c. but much of it is run down and the district is also characterized by many social problems. There were six teams and each as a topic had a different yard including one schoolyard. The members of the teams were: inhabitants, students of landscape design, architects, city officials, activists form NGOs. We started with the presentations on the possibilities of reshaping the yards as the green and socially friendly spaces. Then we had a walk around the yards and analysis of their strong and week points and challenges that they have to face. Later the groups proceeded to brainstorming the ideas. Day two was devoted to elaboration of the selected concepts. The outcomes very interesting. We obtained six visions or remodeling the yards focusing on individual characteristics of each of them. The greenery and small architecture played very important role in each of the ideas, as well as trying to meet needs of users of all ages, but especially kids that do not have many opportunities to play in the neighborhood. The concept that won stressed most the need of joint effort in creating new yard. Planning each step of the project realization with the inhabitants. Now all the six projects are being elaborated on in the City Council that will try to incorporate them in the local development strategy. This year the council have some money to support planting in more then one yard, so the changes in Jeżyce will start happening very soon.
